VCE VET Dance at Gay Wightman School of Ballet

On offer by invitation only, this program is aimed at highly talented students from age 6 to 18, who show potential as future professional dancers.

Students receive specialised coaching classes as well as private lessons. Separate exam and performance schedules add to their dance training.

Graduates of this program often go on to study at a tertiary level, both in Australia and overseas, with many progressing to roles with professional dance companies including The Australian Ballet.

VCE VET DANCE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no pre-requisites to enrol in this course, but previous experience in dance will be an advantage. Students may commence VCE VET Dance in year 10 or 11.

VCE VET DANCE ATAR SCORE CONTRIBUTION

Two solos (one in each dance style) contribute 50% to your ATAR score for VCE VET Dance. School assessed coursework contributes the other 50% of your ATAR score for VCE VET Dance. For more details, see the VCE VET Dance page on the VCAA website.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Certificate II in Dance CUA20113 VCE VET Dance course is delivered over two years part-time. Students should complete Units 1 & 2 (year 1) before enrolling in Units 3 & 4 (year 2).

YEAR ONE

VCE VET DANCE STUDY HOURS

The nominal hours for VCE VET Dance depend on which elective units/dance styles you choose, and range from 320 to 400 hours over the two years of the course.

YEAR 1 2021 COURSE DATES (UNITS 1 & 2)

VET theory class is held on a Tuesday 6.30pm and students will build their own unique technique class and rehearsal choreography timetable from our classes held 7 days a week as well as take a 30 minute private lesson once a week for Solo rehearsal.

YEAR 2 2021 COURSE DATES (UNITS 3 & 4)

VET theory class is held on a Tuesday 6.30pm. Students will build their own unique technique class and rehearsal choreography timetable from our classes held 7 days a week as well as take a 30 minute private lesson once a week for Solo rehearsal.

PERFORMANCES

We offer a minimum of 3 performances a year for our our VET students;
May- Technical Demonstration at Darebin Arts Centre
October- Solo Night performance and assessment at Kew Renaissance Theatre
November- Group Work performance at National Theatre

REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION

The Certificate II in Dance CUA20113 VCE VET Dance course is provided through our Partnership with Ausdance Victoria, a Registered Training Organisation.
